What it is, simply, is a mad dash where brave (or foolhardy) participants chase a large, 7-9 pound round of Double Gloucester cheese as it hurtles down the hill. The first person to cross the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the coveted cheese. While dangerous and leading to frequent injuries, this unique blend of chaos, tradition, and sheer human will attracts thousands globally, maintaining its status as a quirky British spectacle.
